Videography

One of the things I love about a book, printed and bound, is the feel of the pages in your hands, the faint smell of the ink as you gently leaf through the author's folio in anticipation of the ongoing story. Transporting yourself into the narrative with only your imagination. But, there is something to be said for the realism of a video. Immediately immersed in the experience with no effort required of the viewer. The following clips are offered as a bonus to the author's encounters with nature as told in the book, Africa... Table for One. And... to prove these events actually occurred as stated.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Uganda

My warm welcome into the family immediately after being charged by this magnificent leader of the Bikingi family. Always the protector, he sat in the bushes keeping a watchful eye.

Mom pays me the highest compliment when she comes down the tree to groom her little recently born baby boy within feet of where I stand in awe.

Masai Mara Kenya

After following her carefully executed dinner plans for nearly three hours, she walks over as she calls her young in for mealtime. She lay next to me on the ground as her tiny family filled their bellies.

Grumeti Reserve Tanzania

As I watch five momma lions chilling with their small troop of cubs, one by one they leave the comfort of shade and their babies to lie on the ground next to me. I guess moms just know.

Retiti Elephant Sanctuary Kenya

As soon as the milk bottle was empty, this exuberant little boy spent the rest of his time insisting that we play.

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park Botswana

First morning security detail seemed to find safety in my presence. The rest of the Meerkat crew continually used my body for protection and a better vantage point, always on the lookout for danger, as they scour for tiny nuggets of food.

Volcanoes National Park Rwanda

On this day the gorillas came to us for a salty snack of Eucalyptus bark. The "yum yums" say it all. But the look at the end made my heart skip a beat.
